Jeff Baker, President of WESTLab and Technical Consultant for Fenestration Canada, recently presented an update on the code-making process in Canada during a webinar hosted by the American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA). And according to Mr. Baker, the adoption of the North American Fenestration Standard (NAFS) into the National Building Code has been one of the biggest changes in the Canadian door and window industry in recent years. Building codes in Canada vary by province, but the national code is written by the Canadian Commission on Building and Fire Codes (CCBFC). The CCBFC gets policy advice from the Provincial/Territorial Policy Advisory Committee on Codes when it updates the national code every five years, which like the ICC model codes, has no force of law unless adopted by a province or territory.
