Chief Executive Officer

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – JELD-WEN, inc. (“JELD-WEN”) today announced the appointment of Mark A. Beck as the company’s President and Chief Executive Officer effective November 30, 2015. Kirk Hachigian, who is currently in these roles, will continue as an active member of JELD-WEN’s leadership team as Executive Chairman of the Board. Mr. Hachigian and Mr. Beck will work closely together into the new year to facilitate a smooth management transition.

2015 Building Code Conforming Wood Design
Now Available

LEESBURG, VA. – The 2015 Code Conforming Wood Design (CCWD), a joint publication of the American Wood Council (AWC) and the International Code Council (ICC), is now available.

The free download, along with 2012 and 2009 versions, is available here:
http://www.awc.org/codes-standards/buildingcodes/ccwd.

CCWD concisely summarizes provisions related to the use of wood and wood products as they appear in the 2015 International Building Code (IBC). Most notable are the easy-to-use tables provided in CCWD for determination of the maximum building size for eight common occupancy groups using the newly formatted height and area tables of the 2015 IBC.

First Program Operator Consortium Launched for
Environmental Product Declarations Market
at Greenbuild 2015

On Wednesday, four key green-building stakeholder organizations (ASTM International, ICC Evaluation Service, NSF International and Sustainable Minds) will launch the first Program Operator Consortium in the industry. The signing will take place at Greenbuild 2015 at the ASTM International booth (#3313) at 10:30 a.m.  The consortium will serve as an expert resource and advocate for creating product category rules (PCRs), reviewing life cycle assessment (LCA) reports, and verifying and publishing environmental product declarations (EPDs). The consortium members will pool resources; leverage existing relationships; jointly conduct outreach, marketing, education and communications; and promote the overall use of PCRs, LCAs and EPDs in the marketplace.

Existing Home Prices Rise and
Price Appreciation Slows in Q3

The median home price of existing single-family homes rose to $229,000 in the third quarter, up 5.5% from the same quarter a year ago, according to the National Association of Realtors’ Metropolitan Median Area Prices And Affordability report release Thursday morning.
During the third quarter, home prices rose in 87% of all measured markets (or 154 out of 178 metropolitan statistical areas) while 24 metros recorded lower median prices from a year earlier. A total of 21 MSAs (12%) experienced double-digit increases, compared to 16 MSAs in the third quarter of 2014.

Weyerhaeuser Names Trus Joist Distributors for
Mid-Atlantic, Midwest

Weyerhaeuser has announced two distribution deals for its Trus Joist engineered lumber products.  F. P. Supply, a distributor of building products in the Midwest, will become a distributor of Weyerhaeuser Trus Joist engineered lumber products.

Building Materials Bright Spot in Distribution

As 2015 comes to a close, building materials and construction continues to outperform other sectors. In addition to recent positive news such as increased construction spending, distributors in this category also saw the highest revenue growth (2.8 percent) in the third quarter, according to the most recent MDM-Baird Distribution Survey.

And while the fourth quarter is projected to be flat at just 2.5 percent, survey respondents expect building materials and construction to outperform other categories in 2016 with 3.8 percent revenue growth.

Eye on the Economy: Interest Rate Hike in December?

The Federal Reserve’s monetary policy committee did not increase short-term interest rates at the conclusion of its October meeting, but most analysts expect an increase in the coming months. However, recent macroeconomic data have been mixed, which may delay until next year the expected rate boost, which would be the first since 2006.

Builder Confidence Drops Three Points in November

Builder confidence in the market for newly constructed single-family homes slipped three points to 62 in November from an upwardly revised October reading on the National Association of Home Builders/Wells Fargo Housing Market Index (HMI).
