Massachusetts Receives Federal Funding for Green Building Codes

Massachusetts is receiving $3.9 million of federal grant money from the Department of Energy to help implement the state’s stretch building codes, which are aimed at improving energy efficiency and reducing reliance on fossil fuels. The grant money will be offered to communities that want to adopt the new building codes, improve energy in affordable housing, and other related projects.

Federal Government Will Spend $30 Million on Novel Green Building Technologies

The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) and Department of Energy (DOE) will invest $30 million from the Inflation Reduction Act to increase the sustainability of federal buildings by testing novel technologies. The vehicle for that effort, the Green Proving Ground (GPG) program has selected 20 emerging and sustainable technologies for real-world evaluation, which includes window retrofit technologies.

New ASHRAE Standard Defines ‘Zero Energy’ and ‘Zero Carbon’ Buildings

ASHRAE has released a new standard, ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 228-2023, Standard Method of Evaluating Zero Net Energy and Zero Net Carbon Building Performance, which sets requirements for evaluating whether a building or group of buildings meet the definition of “zero net energy or “zero net carbon” during operation.
