HOUSING INDUSTRY

Housing Starts Fall Back to Trend

As expected, single-family housing starts fell back in March from the elevated level set in February. According to estimates from the Census Bureau and HUD, the annual pace of single-family starts was 764,000 in March, down considerably from the upwardly revised, post-cycle high rate of 841,000 recorded in February.

Two Residential Codes Approved During Action Hearings

Code officials are meeting this week in Louisville, Ky., to discuss the 2016 building codes. A few industry-related proposals have already been approved.

ICC Committee Action Hearings Now Underway

The International Code Council’s (ICC) Committee Action Hearings are being held in Louisville, Kentucky this week to consider code change proposals to Group B International codes, which include the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) for residential and commercial, International Residential Code-Building (IRC-B), and International Building Code-Structural (IBC-S).  These proposed changes are being considered for the next edition (2018) of the International codes.  WMA’s Director of Codes & Standards, Jessica Ferris, will be on site to represent WMA in relevant proposals submitted to the IECC, IRC, and IBC.

The Committee Action Hearings are available to view through a Live Webcast provided through ICC by clicking here.   Track I is streaming proposals to the IFC, IRC-B, and IBC-S.  Track 2 is streaming IECC proposals for residential and commercial.
