Dan Barber Receives 2016 Ron Taylor Award

World Millwork Alliance recognizes
lifetime commitment and humanitarian efforts.

NEW PORT RICHEY, FLORIDA (August 22, 2016) – World Millwork Alliance (WMA), will honor Dan Barber as the recipient of the 2016 Ron Taylor Award of Integrity and Commitment on October 11, 2016, at the WMA 52nd Annual Convention & Tradeshow in Phoenix, Arizona.

The Ron Taylor Award recognizes those individuals who exemplify the talent to connect with people, fearless in commitments, the ability to contribute to any endeavor – resulting in a lasting positive impression. Dan Barber was recognized by the RTA Committee for his committed leadership, involvement and contribution to family, friends, and community, in the workplace and in the millwork industry – all the qualities the Ron Taylor Award was founded to celebrate.

Sheraton Grand Phoenix – Limited Availability at WMA Host Hotel

 ATTENTION:  WMA Members

WMA recommends that you contact the Sheraton Grand Phoenix directly to check the availability for hotel rooms during the WMA Annual Convention dates.   WMA’s hotel room block is sold out on certain peak nights of the event. Some WMA members have reported they were able to book rooms with the Sheraton Grand Phoenix.  This is due to members who have cancelled a reservation or altered their stay and those room nights being circulated back into the WMA room block and being available at the group rate.


Pre-Registration Still Available for Non-Member Wholesale Distributors

Non-Member Wholesale Distributor Companies who are the first-time attendees of the WMA Annual Convention & Tradeshow are extended a special registration rate of $650.00 when they pre-register for the event by September 23rd, 2016. Individuals must qualify as wholesale distributors in accordance with the WMA By-laws and Convention policies.

Market Hovering at potential in Era of Many Housing “Positives”

For the month of July, First American’s proprietary Potential Homes Sales model showed that the market for existing-home sales is underperforming its potential by 1.3 percent or an estimated 92,000 seasonally adjusted, annualized rate (SAAR) of sales, an improvement over the last month’s revised under-performance gap of 1.8 percent, or 104,000 (SAAR sales. The Potential Home Sales model provides a gauge on whether existing-home sales are under or over their long-run potential level based on current market fundamentals.

New Multifamily Rental Share Remains Strong

An elevated market share for new rental multifamily homes is holding typical apartment size below levels seen during the pre-recession period. However, as multifamily developers build more for-sale housing units in the years ahead, the average size of multifamily homes is likely to rise. The recent pattern of change in the size of new multifamily units stands in contrast to the post-recession increase in the size of typical new single-family homes.

Energy-efficient Building Market Growing 9.6% Annually

The global energy-efficient building market is expected to see steady growth through 2020, growing at 9.4 percent annually, according to a new report.

The growth is primarily attributed to the need for energy management, technological advancements and increaes in the number of green buildings, a release about the report says.

“Global Energy-Efficient Building Market 2016-2020” by Sandler Research is based on an in-depth market analysis with input from industry experts.

South Dakota Nears Deadline for Statewide Adoption of Energy Codes

The Argus Leader reported recently that back in 2009 the state of South Dakota, along with many other states, received stimulus package money from the U.S. Department of Energy in exchange for promoting energy efficient buildings by adopting residential and commercial energy building codes. But unlike the other states that received federal funds, South Dakota is the only state that has yet to adopt any statewide efficient energy codes and the 2017 deadline for doing so is looming.

City of Vancouver to Require Zero-Emissions by 2030

The city of Vancouver in British Columbia, Canada will require zero greenhouse gas emissions from new buildings (both residential and commercial) by 2030, based on a Zero Emissions Building Plan approved July 13 reports Green Tech Media.

The city government is taking the lead by calling for all new city-owned and Vancouver Affordable Housing Agency projects to meet this new requirement starting now. The next phase will require rezoned residential developments to comply by 2025, with all other new buildings following suit by 2030.
