Every Building on the Planet Must Be Net Zero Carbon by 2050 to Keep Global Warming Below 2°C Claims World Green Building Council
The building sector, which is responsible for global emissions roughly equivalent to those of the whole of China, must operate at “net zero carbon” by 2050 if global warming is to remain under two degrees Celsius, the limit enshrined in the Paris Agreement. According to a new report from the World Green Building Council (WorldGBC), there are currently 500 net zero commercial buildings and 2,000 net zero homes around the globe (well under 1 per cent of all buildings worldwide), requiring a monumental and coordinated effort by businesses, governments and nongovernmental organisations to bring the building sector within striking distance of Paris Agreement targets. Canada Green Building Council CaGBC Launches Canada’s First Zero Carbon Building Standard
The Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC) has taken a major step toward achieving Canada’s climate change commitments with the launch of the country’s first Zero Carbon Building Standard. This highly-anticipated Standard assesses carbon use in commercial, institutional, and multi-family buildings in Canada. In order to achieve large-scale market transformation, it was designed to be broadly applicable for many types of new and existing buildings across the country. It is also the only program of its kind to make carbon reductions the key indicator for building performance.

NAHB Releases Remodeling by Zip Code Estimates for 2017
NAHB recently released its latest projections of spending on improvements to owner-occupied housing by zip code. The projections show total spending on improvements, the number of owner-occupied homes, as well as average spending per improvement, in each of over 26,000 zip codes for calendar year 2017. Second Look at GDP Growth in the First Quarter – A Little Better, But About the Same
The Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) released the second estimate of real GDP growth in the first quarter of 2017. Economic activity expanded at a 1.2% seasonally adjusted annual rate, an upward revision from the previous 0.7% estimate. President Donald Trump officially released his proposal for the 2018 federal budget which includes a $6.2 billion cut to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.The cut was previously announced in the president’s preliminary budget proposal in March.
