WMA ANNUAL CONVENTION HIGHLIGHT

Millwork Career Day
Students and Veterans – On Tuesday, October 10th, WMA will feature Millwork Career Day in the exhibit hall at the 53rd Annual Convention and Tradeshow in Charlotte, NC. Students and Veterans are invited to walk the exhibit hall from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm and learn about the millwork industry and the career opportunities available. Exhibit hall entry passes will be available to students and veterans at the WMA Registration desk when presenting a current student photo I.D. or valid VA photo identification card. GREEN BUILDING

5 Global Green Building Trends for 2017
Thanks in part to the U.N.’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, green building projects are increasing worldwide. From 2015 to 2018, the percentage of global builders with at least 60 percent of their projects certified green will double, according to the World Green Building Trends report. CODES & STANDARDS

WMA 100 Revisions
WMA’s Voluntary Standard, ANSI/WMA 100-2016, “Standard Method of Determining Structural Performance Ratings of Side-Hinged Exterior Door Systems and Procedures for Component Substitution” is undergoing a 5-year revision cycle pursuant to ANSI’s periodic standard maintenance requirements. The draft standard, incorporating several revisions proposed by WMA’s Industry Standards and Certification Committee (ISCC), is now available for public comment until June 19, 2017. OSHA Announces Inaugural ‘Safe + Sound Week’
The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration has designated June 12-18, 2017 as “Safe + Sound Week,” a new nationwide effort that calls on organizations of all sizes in a wide range of industries to raise awareness of the value and importance of workplace safety and health programs. Consumer Credit Expands, But At A Slower Pace
According to the Federal Reserve Board’s G.19 Consumer Credit report, the total amount of consumer credit outstanding rose by 2.6 percent (SAAR) over the month of April 2017 to $3.82 trillion. Revolving credit, which is largely composed of credit card debt and represents $1.01 trillion, rose by 1.8 percent while non-revolving credit, which encompasses auto and student loans and totals $2.81 trillion, grew by 2.9 percent. DOL’s Joint Employment Rule Withdrawn
On Wednesday, Secretary of Labor Alexander Acosta withdrew the department’s 2015 and 2016 informal guidance on joint employment that, under Obama-era definitions, could have held an employer liable for the labor and workplace practices of independent contractors and subcontractors such as window installers.
