Spotlight on Associate Service Provider Member – DMSi Software: Innovating the Millwork Industry Through Technology

DMSi

This month, we’re excited to shine the spotlight on DMSi Software, a proud WMA member that has been revolutionizing the millwork industry with cutting-edge software solutions. From streamlining operations to addressing critical industry challenges, DMSi plays a vital role in helping businesses thrive in an ever-evolving landscape.

We spoke with Scott Green, Vice President of Millwork Development, who shared insights about their company’s mission, their connection to WMA, and how they’re empowering millwork companies to achieve new levels of efficiency and success.

1. How does your software help millwork companies streamline their operations or solve key challenges in the industry?

Our software for the millwork industry includes Agility ERP, Millwork Development E-Catalog, DMSi CRM, & Agility Commerce Cloud. This suite of hosted products allows our customers to focus on what they do best – selling their products – while leaving the complexity of backups, new releases, and system architecture to us. Millwork customers can focus on handling day-to-day transactions and growing their businesses. Our easy-to-use software manages every stage of production, from auto-transfers for required materials from other branches, to providing accurate delivery dates on every custom job. Agility’s built-in features and processes allow our customers to seamlessly manage the complexities of their millwork product lines and departments, including pre-finish, paint and stain, door assembly, and custom molding manufacturing.

2. What trends or technological advancements are you seeing in the millwork industry, and how is your software helping businesses stay ahead of the curve?

There is quite a lot going on in the millwork industry - whether that be labor issues within the warehouse, shortage of delivery drivers, or the changing ways that customers want to interact with businesses. These are areas where our software can have a meaningful impact on the overall solution to these challenges.

First, many in the industry are turning to additional automation and robotics to help speed up the processes within picking and production. We continue to do the work to make sure that our software can seamlessly send and receive the necessary data from these machines to complete the tasks at hand. Automating these tasks allows the shop and warehouse personnel to devote their time to other value-added activities. Second, is making sure our software allows for quick and easy updates, especially when it comes to pricing. Pricing has always been an important issue, and with the extreme fluctuations since Covid and current talks of potential tariffs, it continues to be a hot topic. We are committed to rolling out additional functionality to make sure our customers can handle all of their pricing scenarios within this ever-changing landscape. And finally, in the eCommerce space, we have our Agility Commerce Cloud offering. This is a comprehensive eCommerce solution that integrates with Agility. It is a mobile-ready, white-label eCommerce solution, with a customizable content management system (CMS). The CMS can be tailored to serve as a powerful sales and marketing tool for millwork businesses.

3. Can you share a success story or example of how a WMA member has benefited from using your software?

When I think about success stories, it seems the common theme always comes back to making things easier and more efficient. These successes have been as small as adding an additional field to a form or automating the sending out of ASN’s so that the lumberyard knows exactly what is being delivered and when it will be delivered to their location.

Others are much larger projects, such as using our Door Configurator in our eCommerce tool to allow our customers’ customers to enter their own interior or exterior door configuration. Because of the direct integration with Agility, our customers are immediately able to check inventory availability, provide an accurate price, schedule the unit to be built, and give an accurate date to their customer of when they can expect the completed unit to be delivered. This is HUGE as it allows customers to configure the unit on their own time and with one click, the configured unit is sent into the production process, which Agility manages from start to finish. This has cut down the number of units built incorrectly, and the hassle that goes along with it, since the “middleman” is cut out of the process.

We are thrilled to be a part of the WMA organization, as it allows us to meet with our customers to hear what is going on and discuss the hot topics that inform us about how to continually improve the software experience.  The relationships we have developed over the years are why we continue to be an active part of this phenomenal organization.
