USGlass News Network (USGNN) reports that California-based public record’s activist, Carl Malamud’s organization, Public.Resource.org, is currently involved in several ongoing lawsuits.  Malamud is currently the defendant in a copyright infringement suit filed in August 2013 by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).  These organizations develop standards involving glass, glazing and fenestration.  Public.Resource.org wants to make codes and standards more accessible and it does this by re-publishing standards it has purchased that can then be accessed for free from its website.  ASTM, ASHRAE, and NFPA maintain that copyright protection is essential because of the cost and effort involved in developing their codes and standards.   Read More in USGNN >
