GDP in Q3 Stronger than Expected

Real gross domestic product increased at an annual rate of 3.5% in the third quarter of 2016, according to the “third” estimate released by the Bureau of Economic Analysis Thursday. In the second quarter, real GDP increased 1.4%.

Home Values Rise Fastest Since 2006 in November

In November, national home values rose at their fastest annual pace since 2006, near the peak of the housing bubble. The Zillow® Home Value Indexi (ZHVI) is $192,500, 2% shy of the records set in 2007, according to the November Zillow Real Estate Market Reports.

November Construction Employment Across States

NAHB’s analysis of November regional employment data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) shows that states with the highest annual growth rates of total construction employment are Nevada (11.72%), Iowa (10.21%), and Washington (9.41%). The total number of workers in construction reached 6.7 million nationwide, up by 2.72% annually.  At the same time, the largest annual construction jobs gains took place in California (35,100), Florida (23,200), and Colorado (12,800).

Housing Starts Fall in November

Housing starts posted a notable drop in November after a strong October pace. Total starts were down 18.7%, falling to a 1.09 million seasonally adjusted annual rate after a 1.34 million rate in October. However, the decline was concentrated in the volatile multifamily sector.
