Builder Confidence Holds Firm in January

Builder confidence in the market for newly-built single-family homes held steady at 60 in January from a downwardly revised December reading of 60, according to the National Association of Home Builders/Wells Fargo Housing Market Index (HMI).

Economists see more growth for US economy, housing in ’16

A robust U.S. economy and job market, plus low mortgage rates, should help keep the recovery in the new-home market going at a modest pace this year, but a return to pre-housing boom sales and construction levels isn’t imminent. That’s the forecast that David Crowe, chief economist for the National Association of Home Builders, delivered Tuesday during a panel of economists at the trade association’s latest industry convention in Las Vegas.

Millennials to Shape Housing Preferences
Once They Start Buying

The millennial generation is poised to make a significant impact on home design with their strong preferences for energy efficiency and smart home technology; comfortable, workable kitchens and more casual spaces, said speakers today from the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and Better Homes and Gardens. Both spoke at a press conference on housing preferences for millennials, Gen X, boomers and seniors held today during the NAHB International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas.

2015 Housing Starts End Year Up 10.8 Percent
Permits Up 12 Percent

Nationwide housing starts increased 10.8 percent to 1.11 million units in 2015, according to newly released figures from HUD and the U.S. Commerce Department. Single-family starts posted a yearly gain of 10.4 percent to 715,000 units.
