NAHB Commends Court Ruling Suspending EPA Water Rule

The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) announced on Friday that it commends the Sixth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals for enacting a nationwide stay of the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) final regulations that expand the definition of “waters of the United States” under the Clean Water Act.  NAHB states that the “EPA failed to consult with state and local governments, confer with business stakeholders, comply with the requirements of the Regulatory Flexibility Act or produce an accurate cost-benefit analysis.”  Read More from NAHB >

Proposed Overtime Rule Has Industry Concerned

DWM Magazine reports that the Department of Labor’s proposed overtime rule would “raise the threshold under which salaried workers are guaranteed overtime pay from $23,660 a year to $50,440 a year in 2016,” and this is raising concern in the building industry.  DWM Magazine notes that the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) believes that the proposed rule could compel business owners to reorganize their workforces by cutting hours to avoid overtime, making salaried employees to hourly workers, and cutting back on pay and benefits.  NAHB chair Tom Woods states, “In addition to construction supervisors, the proposed rule could affect other occupations in the industry, including sales representatives, administrative staff and local trade association employees.”  Read more at DWM Magazine >
