NAHB Announces Strategic Partnership with Greenbuild

Residential Construction Spending Rises In August

HousingWire is reporting construction spending during August 2015 came in at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $1,086.2 billion, 0.7% (±1.5%) above the revised July estimate of $1,079.1 billion, the U.S. Census Bureau of the Department of Commerce announced.

Peter M. Fecht Passes Away (1950-2015)

Peter M. Fecht passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2015, at the age of 65, after battling health problems.   Pete spent his entire career in the millwork industry. He had worked at the former Lawrence Brothers Hardware for 29 years, Generation 4 for 13 years, and the last year with PreHangers Supply Corporation where Pete was credited to giving the young business a successful start.
 
Pete was known as a kind, honest and giving person. Always a helpful to friends and those in the millwork industry. A close friend of Pete commented on his passing, “Those of us who worked closely with Pete are especially honored to have known him. We all benefited from his generosity and optimistic, positive attitude. Those attributes never changed, even throughout the past several weeks and days. Most of all, we benefited from Pete’s friendship. We will miss our dear friend.”
 
After graduation from Newman Central Catholic High School, Pete served in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1970-1972. He was a member and past commander of the Sterling American Legion Post 296. Pete enjoyed fishing, riding his motorcycle, playing pool and reading.

ANSI Signs Renewed MoU with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII)

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) reports that it has signed a renewed memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).  The MoU reaffirms each organization’s commitment to working together to advance U.S-India cooperation on standards and conformity assessment, as part of the U.S.-India Strategic and Commercial Dialogue.   Read More at ANSI >

Menzner Hardwoods Announces The Acquisition Of Glen Oak Millwork

Menzner Hardwoods announced the acquisition of the former Glen Oak Millwork facility in Somerset, NY.  The Somerset location will focus on FJ Poplar, Poplar S4S boards and solid Poplar mouldings.   According to Menzer Hardwoods, Poplar has become a species of choice due to its excellent painting and staining characteristics.  The acquisition will help Menzner address this growing segment and allow Menzner to grow their business.  Carey Bunkelman, an employee Menzner Hardwood for 38 years, has been named manager of the Somerset location.

Housing Share of GDP

With the release of the final estimates of second quarter 2015 GDP growth (revised up to a 3.9% growth rate), housing’s share of gross domestic product (GDP) declined slightly to 15.31%. However, the home building and remodeling component – residential fixed investment – expanded for the third consecutive quarter to 3.21% of total GDP.
