ADP: Construction Adds 11,000 Jobs in September

The three-month streak of losses in the construction sector ends, but overall jobs added disappoints.

The U.S. economy added 154,000 private, non-farm jobs in September, according to the monthly employment report released Wednesday by payroll-management firm ADP and its partner Moody’s Analytics.

NAR forecasts heated housing market in 2017

Predictions from the National Association of Realtors, the Mortgage Bankers Association, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac show that home sales are going to heat up in 2017, according to a blog by NAR.

NAR predicted existing home sales will reach 6 million in 2017, an increase from this year’s forecast of 5.8 million, according to the blog. But this is on the low-end of the predictions. MBA predicted home sales will reach 6.5 million and Fannie and Freddie forecast home sales will come in at 6.2 million.

Single-family Construction Spending Declines Again

According to estimates from Census Construction Spending data, total private residential construction spending edged down 0.3% in August to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $449.2 billion. The record-breaking gains registered by multifamily construction were not enough to offset the declines in both single-family and home improvement spending.

House Votes to Delay Overtime Rule

Last night, the House of Representatives passed the Regulatory Relief for Small Businesses, Schools, and Nonprofits Act (H.R. 6094), which would delay implementation of the Department of Labor’s (DOL) new Overtime Rule for six months. However,  the Obama administration issued a statement on Tuesday threatening to veto the bill, and unless compromise legislation can be enacted after Congress returns from its election break in November, the overtime rule will take effect in its current form on December 1.
